Are you a new mom? Congratulations and I wish you well. Are you a professional too? My goodness, you do have your hands full. It is not easy leaving that cute, defenseless infant home with anyone, especially a stranger, while you go back to work, your career. I know it isn't easy because I did it. So do thousands of other moms and dads, everyday. Just because it is a common occurrence, it still isn't easy.

Besides that, how do you find a competent, trustworthy individual to watch over your newborn or toddler? Here are a few suggestions and recommendations:

1. Begin by asking around. If you belong to a new mothers' group, speak to them. Ask your doctor if he knows of anyone. Ask your neighbors, friends, and your co-workers.

2. Interview them, in your home, with your child. It is important to note if they arrived on time, if they are
dressed appropriately (e.g. sneakers or high heels), and if they answer all of your questions. (See below for suggested Barney Miller dvd box set (http://www.hamptonstephens.com/p1.html)s)

3. Ask for references and call each of the previous households to see how he or she faired. You can do this while they are still in your home so if there are any additional questions that may come from your reference calls, you can ask them at that time. Make this your first priority before making a decision.

4. Find out if he or she is familiar with infant CPR. It is different with infants than adults or even older children, so it is important that they have been certified, and within the past year. It is also something that you and other people in your household should know. Courses in infant and adult CPR are given at local hospitals on a regular basis, usually at low or no cost; or you could hire an instructor to come to your house or mothers' group to teach the course. It is a lifesaver, literally.

5. When you have narrowed it down to a reasonable number of applicants, have each one of them come to your house while you are there and allow them to interact with the baby. See how they perform: when the baby cries, needs a diaper change, at feeding Barney Miller dvd collection (http://www.saarcaa.com) , at Barney Miller show dvd collection (http://www.saarcaa.com) and nap time. See how the baby reacts to them: their voice, their touch, their smell. All of these things are important.
